Mark Dean was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee. As a child, he was very intelligent and would tutor his friends in math. In 1979, he joined IBM. His first task was something he would have never imagined- to build a PC. Mark Dean is often credited for being one of the first major contributors to the PC; he helped build the first home one. His own invention, the AT Bus, is still used to this day. It connects components to the computer’s processor, allowing them to communicate quickly and effectively. At 25 years old, he was named the head of PC design at IBM. “3 of the 9 original patents for the PC belonged to him” (IBM).
